Why Homemade Pizza Dough with Active Dry Yeast
This recipe uses active dry yeast to make a pizza dough that rises quickly and is ready to bake in just twenty minutes. I like using yeast in my pizza dough because it tastes great and makes a crust that is soft and fluffy.

Materials Needed for Making Homemade Pizza Dough
Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
I buy yeast by the jar and measure it out, but you can use a premeasured packet as well (2 ¼ teaspoons is equal to one packet). Warm water will help your dough rise faster! I use raw honey from my own bees in this recipe, but you can substitute sugar for the honey if you prefer.
Directions for Making Homemade Pizza Dough

- Add 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour to the wet ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until a sticky dough is formed
- Lightly flour your hands and gently knead the dough for a minute and then form it into a ball and let it rise in a warm place for 20 minutes
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees and prepare the sauce and toppings for your pizza
- After 20 minutes have elapsed, flour your countertop and your hands, retrieve the dough and knead it until smooth
- Use a rolling pin to work the dough into a circle that will fit on your pizza pan
- Transfer the dough to your pizza pan and arrange the crust by twisting, pinching, or folding to your liking
