How to Make a Cigar Band Soap Label with Microsoft Word
Cigar band soap labels are perfect for rectangular-shaped bars of handmade soap. They provide four places to inform users about the scent, ingredients, and your farm business without covering up much of the soap itself. Use this downloadable template to make a cigar band soap label of your own using Microsoft Word.

As a soap maker, I have tried different ways of labeling my homemade soap including wrapping, bagging, and making cigar bands.
Cigar bands are my favorite way to label my soap because they provide customers with all the information they need but still allow the soap to be smelled and the color and design to be appreciated.
What is a Cigar Band Soap Label?
Cigar band soap labels are long pieces of paper that are wrapped and secured around a bar of soap. They provide users with information about the scent, ingredients, and maker of the item.
I design cigar band soap labels using Microsoft Word and print them on cardstock from a home computer. I cut them out with a guillotine paper cutter, wrap them tightly around my bars, and keep them in place with two pieces of clear tape.
Cigar band soap labels work well for rectangular, square, or oval-shaped bars of soap. You can put them in the middle of the soap bar, like I do, or at the bottom.
Requirements for Soap Labeling
Legally, soap labels should include identifying information about the product (labeled as “soap”), the net weight of the bar, the business name with an address, and a list of all ingredients.
On the front of my labels, I put my logo and farm name. On the back, I identify the product as handmade soap, list the ingredients from most predominate in the soap to least, provide contact information, and the weight of the soap at the time of packaging. On each of the side panels, I identify the scent.
It’s up to you where you put the information, just make sure everything required is included. With four areas to work with, cigar bands offer plenty of real estate.
I don’t recommend stating any claims on your soap label such as perceived benefits or treatment of any conditions. Doing so would cause the soap to be classified as a cosmetic, which requires different labeling.

The dimensions of my soap labels are 9 x 1.75 inches, and I print them four to a page. They fit nicely around my square soap bars that have dimensions of 2.75 x 1 x 2.75 inches.
Note that the first square on the template should be kept blank. This is the tab that will be overlapped by the back panel of the label when you attach it to your soap.
