I make tacos for dinner about once a week. It’s something with fresh ingredients I can whip up in about 10 minutes and a well-rounded meal that our whole family enjoys.

Since we raise meat goats on our farm, I usually use a pound of frozen ground goat for tacos. It cooks well and tastes delicious! If you haven’t tried goat meat, you are missing out! You can learn more about goat meat and how it compares to beef in my other article.

Of course, you can substitute goat meat for ground beef or venison too and still use this recipe. My homemade taco seasoning is incredible, but if you’re in a rush, go ahead and grab that taco seasoning packet from the cupboard (no judgement here!)

Ingredients for Making Ground Goat Tacos

This blend of spices complements the natural flavor of goat meat, I know rosemary isn’t a typical taco seasoning ingredient, but trust me on this one! The tomato paste and water will give you the classic flavor and consistency you would expect from taco meat.

This recipe serves about four people, which is perfect for our family. You can double or triple the recipe if you are feeding a bigger crowd. If there are any leftovers, refrigerate them in an airtight container and use within a few days.

Other things you might want to have on hand are tortilla shells, garden fresh salsa (recipe here) or hot sauce, and taco toppings. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Shredded lettuce
  • Black beans
  • Rice
  • Cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Diced tomato
  • Diced red onion
  • Diced jalapeno peppers
  • Sliced avocado
  • Lime juice
  • Fresh, chopped cilantro

Want to spice things up even more? Instead of making traditional tacos, consider using the meat and toppings to make nachos or put them over a bed of rice for a colorful and tasty protein bowl!
