Even though I love Poo-Pourri (the company and their products are top-notch), I decided to try and make my own toilet spray for fun.

Guess what? It works and costs less than buying the real thing!

You can make your own toilet spray in minutes with just 4 ingredients and keep your bathroom smelling fresh. Give it a try!

Materials Needed for Making Chemical-free Toilet Spray

If you are using essential oils for fragrance, I recommend amber glass bottles. A pipette and funnel aren’t completely necessary, but it does make the project less messy.

The corn syrup and rubbing alcohol help make a barrier on the surface of the toilet water when the spray is used. I have tried using sodium lactate, which I have from cold-process soap making, instead of corn syrup and it works just as well (both are humectants). Distilled water is the best bet (bacteria free) since we aren’t using a preservative.

You can use your favorite essential oil or combine them to make a signature bathroom fragrance. Some of my favorite essential oils are lavender, lemongrass, and peppermint.

You can also make toilet spray with fragrance oils. I buy phthalate and paraben-free fragrance oils from Brambleberry.com for soap making and they make amazing, non-irritating bathroom sprays!
