It’s currently October in Michigan, but winter will be upon us soon enough. I can feel it in the wind… and in my dry skin.

To help with the dry skin issue, I have tried all sorts of store-bought products, none of which worked, and some even made my skin more irritated. The solution I found was to develop my own skincare products with real, natural ingredients.

I make my own sugar scrub, goat milk soap, and whipped tallow balm… and you can too!

A Skincare Routine for Dry Skin Issues

This skincare routine has transformed my skin. I use sugar scrub and soap in the shower. The sugar scrub helps to gently remove dead cells, leaving the skin smooth. Washing with goat milk soap cleanses and moisturizes, leaving my skin silky and nourished.

After drying off, I use a layer of tallow balm to lock in the moisture for long lasting comfort and relief. For my amazing, whipped tallow balm recipe, click here.

If your hands are the issue, you can do the same routine at the sink.

Materials for Making Easy, Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

Let’s make some sugar scrub!

Here are the items you will need to make a 4-cup (32 ounce) batch of sugar scrub.

You can put your sugar scrub in glass or plastic containers. I like the four-ounce plastic jars because I don’t have to worry about breaking them if they get dropped in the shower!

Ingredients for Making Easy, Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

I use granulated white sugar, organic coconut oil, and organic olive oil in my sugar scrub. You can substitute another oil that is liquid at room temperature for the olive oil if you wish. I have used avocado, sweet almond, and jojoba oil as well. To make the sugar scrub smell nice, I use essential oils or phthalate-free fragrance oils from Brambleberry.com.

If you want to color your sugar scrub, you can use micas or something natural like beet root powder, turmeric, or other spices. For added exfoliation, you can add spent coffee grounds to the sugar scrub as well.
