When I am home during the summer I like to replace my lunch with a protein smoothie.
Not only are protein smoothies delicious, but they can also be a great way to make sure you are getting your daily fruits, veggies, calcium, fiber, and protein (of course!)
Materials for Making a Green Goat Smoothie
Ingredients for Making a Green Goat Smoothie
- 1 cup whole, raw goat’s milk (or milk of your choice)
- 1 cup of ice
- ½ banana (fresh or frozen)
- 2 scoops vanilla protein powder
- 1 tsp. milled flax seed
- ½ cup raw spinach
I make my smoothies with whole, raw goat’s milk from my herd of Nubian dairy goats, but you can use any type of milk that you prefer. Cow, almond, or soy milk would all taste great! If you are looking to cut down on calorie and/or fat intake, use a skim or non-fat milk option.
One cup is just enough ice to make the smoothie the right consistency without overwhelming my old, trusty blender.
In my opinion, banana just makes a smoothie better! It adds some creaminess and sweetness.
I use an organic, vanilla bean flavored protein powder that contains 21 grams of plant-based protein per serving (2 scoops). It contains probiotics, is non-GMO, and tastes amazing!
The milled flax seed adds fiber, omega 3 fatty acids, and some texture to the smoothie. You can use whole flax seed if you prefer more of a crunch!
Adding spinach to the smoothie provides your body with Vitamins A, C, K, and several B vitamins. It also contributes to your intake of needed minerals like iron and manganese. Spinach gives the smoothie a pretty, green color too.
Directions for Making a Green Goat Smoothie
- 1. Add milk, ice, banana, protein powder, and flax seed to the blender
- 2. Place spinach on top of the other ingredients (it helps to keep the protein powder from sticking to the sides and lid of the blender)
- 3. Put the lid on the blender and puree for 20 seconds
- 4. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
